

The Department of Tourism Economics and Management in collaboration with the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean organize and operate the master’s degree Program "Strategic Management of Tourist Destinations and Hospitality Enterprises" in Chios. This postgraduate program is the first in the field of Higher Education in Greece and has been operating continuously since 1998 in Chios, covering the needs of the country's tourism sector in human scientific potential.
The program awards a master’s degree in "Strategic Management of Tourist Destinations and Hospitality Enterprises" in the areas of Strategic Tourism Development and Hospitality Management. The program broadens the knowledge of postgraduate students, sharpens their critical skills and equips them with the required theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to either join the tourism market or continue their studies at a research level.

Interinstitutional Postgraduate Programme of Studies
“Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Air Transport Management (MATBA)”
MATBA is an interinstitutional postgraduate programme coordinated by the Department of Tourism Economics and Management, University of the Aegean (Chios, Greece), with the participation of the Department of Civil Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace (Greece). The programme is designed to deliver advanced, practice-oriented and research-informed knowledge across the full spectrum of the air transport sector.
MATBA is the first MBA programme in Greece in the field of Air Transport Management, designed to develop highly qualified professionals who can lead and innovate in a complex, regulated, and rapidly evolving aviation environment. Over the course of 18 months (three academic semesters), students engage with advanced topics across strategy, operations, regulation, technology, and the future of aviation.
Programme focus & streams
The programme provides a comprehensive foundation in air transport management and, in the second semester, offers three dedicated streams:
- Airports
- Airlines
- Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs)
The curriculum (total 90 ECTS) is structured over three (3) semesters and includes core and elective modules, followed by an MBA Thesis. Full-time study follows the standard duration of the programme, while part-time study is available under specific conditions and may extend up to twice the normal duration.
Delivery in English & distance learning
MATBA is delivered entirely in English, with teaching implemented through modern distance learning approaches. The programme utilises:
- Zoom for synchronous (real-time) lectures, and
- Moodle for asynchronous learning support and educational content.
This structure supports working professionals and international participants, offering flexibility without compromising academic quality and engagement.

MATBA is supported by key strategic partners, including Athens International Airport and the Hermes – Air Transport Organisation (Montreal, Canada), strengthening the programme’s connectivity with real-world challenges and industry needs.
In line with its strategy MATBA is further supported by its Industry Board, comprising distinguished personalities and senior executives from the aviation sector, ensuring an ongoing dialogue between academia and industry and contributing to the programme’s relevance and impact.
